Welcome all,
To the unveiling of the 'Green Gardener' blog! I really am excited about this and cannot wait to see all the great information that will be here. I suppose that I should start out first by introducing myself to all you wonderful people. My name is Zachary, I am 17, and my greatest joy and hobbies are my family, painting, and GARDENING. I first really started gardening when I was 8 or 9 years old, I started out doing the vegetable garden; you know, planting tomatoes, peppers, green beens, and lettuce, all the great things that every gardener plants! It is no secret that I did basically take over the back yard as my own secret sanctum. Even though I have left the front alone and just do to it as my mom wishes(Sometimes :) I can honestly say that I have started to creep into the front also.
When I was 11 or 12 I mowed the grass for a woman who lived across the street from me. This neighbor had a huge stick pile in the corner of her yard, that was filled with leaves, weeds, sticks, and stones...basically not the ideal spot. One day I got up enough courage to go to her and ask if I was able to claim that spot as my own (even though I had my own yard to deal with.) She of course said yes, besides who could say no to my big, brown, adorable eyes. (Yes, I was adorable when I was younger, like all of my siblings say, 'you get ugly when you get old.')
At once I went to work, clearing out the sticks and weeds (there were allot of weeds!) After which I started to hoe the soil making it loose and workable. It was great, I started to plant all sorts of things in this garden, things that I had never planted before, like carrots, and cucumber, broccoli, kale, and kohlrabi.
There was never a dull moment in that garden, from making my cucumber tepees to making war with the neighboring chipmunks, I was kept busy!
I will tell you all the rest later, but I have got to go to bed!
Night All!
~Zach
