Garden plan 2010
I don't know about you, but I am extremely excited about this new year of veggies and flowers. After my recent internship on the 150 acre organic farm, I have looked into being more adventurous and trying some not-so-common home veggies. Everyone grows and harvests the traditional mix of vegetables and herbs; such as tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, zucchini, basil and the like. I on the other hand want to reach out into the plethora of vegetables and herbs that most home gardeners never get the chance to do.
Here is a list of what I will be growing in 2010;
Basil, Beets, Carrots, Turnips, Zucchini, Yellow Squash, Acorn and Butternut Squash, Tomatoes, Peppers, Oca (not to be confused with Okra), Lettuce, Radishes, Turnips, Garlic, Celeriac, Leeks, Calendula, Chamomile, Fennel, Cucumbers, Nasturtium, Cauliflower, Cilantro, Parsley, Swiss Chard, Kale, and Sun Flowers.
I quickly made a outline of what the garden will look like and we will hope that I got it right. I will go out later and make sure that I have all the measurement correct.

I'm amazed that you will be able to fit all those veggies in your garden. If you can plant that many veggies in your garden, just think what you can do in mine! So, what veggies can I expect in mine?
It looks great Zach. Don't get too hung up on the measurements. Just plant and eyeball it. I double and companion plant so I can get more in my garden and the veggies don't mind. Your list looks pretty inclusive and I see some poppies there too. Love those! Probably because I can't grow them here:(
You should post about your sustainable practices if you get the chance. Interning and planning for a veggie garden are probably keeping you busy though so if you can't that is fine too. Let Jan know at Thanks for 2 Day if you do.
Hi Zach, thanks for visiting;-) It's been a while since I've said hello. As Tina said, write a small post about what you are doing to help the environment, even just a couple of things, and you can link it to my sidebar...and be eligible for the giveaway. I see you have some very nice garden plans. You are very industrious. It takes a lot to do that, plus be a student. Being a student is often a full time job in itself!
Karen: Obviously you should do tomatoes, peppers, and summer squash. If you have space, you should do some winter squash, and melons. I Don't know what type of veggies you like, but send me a list.
Tina & Jan:
Thank you so much for sympathizing with my crazy school schedule! You are very right, school is essentially a full time job!
I think I must do a post on the subject of sustainability! It is so important in these times.
I wish I had room to grow winter squashs, love them! I'll be trying carrots for the first time. Wish me luck. After your time at the farm, I'm sure your veggies will be fabulous. Are you buried in snow? Ten inches here in Pick-town!
The plan looks good- isn't it fun to doodle on those graph papers?
I haven't really decided yet what to put into my veggie garden- but I know it will be bigger than last year- thanks for your inspirations :)
Sounds like a great plan! I wish I could be gardening...but college life is not well-suited to the activity!
hey Zach!
lovely project for your garden! It looks great!
=D
Great blog!, fantastic!
Nice plan, keep it up.
I would be super excited about veggies too..growing your own stuff is really a fun experience, I miss it :)
